Weight can define people’s live and it can be very taxing for someone to live a life where they constantly wish they were a smaller size, and wish they could have a different body than the one they have now.

Being physically active is one of the most important things a person can do to lose weight and also feel better in their own skin.

You need to increase your fitness level, if this sounds like you.

It has been scientifically proven that the more that you work out, the more endorphins are released in the brain that will wake you up and make you feel happier.

It is crucial that you take the time to sweat at least once a day.

Finding something to do

Now, one of the hardest parts about losing weight is finding an activity you enjoy doing.

Even if you want to do something such as working out or going to the gym, sometimes you may not want to do it.

Some people look to something like running, but that is definitely not for everyone, and can really be hard to get into.

We believe that one of the best things you can do to increase your level of fitness is to do something where there is an end result in play, such as playing a new sport.

Sports are a fantastic way to lose the weight and join together with people towards a common purpose.

Sports are a great way to also meet people and get to know one another while working towards a common goal: to have fun, to lose weight, and to win.

If you find a sport that works for you, we encourage you to stick to it as it is going to have great effects on your body and your mindset.

Boxing is a great individual sport

One sport that a lot of people turn to is boxing.

Now there are some people reading this who may not think boxing is actually a sport, but we are here to tell you it definitely is.

Today we are going to be looking at how you can start boxing if you want to do it for a fitness routine.

We are going to be answering the major questions that you may have in order to help you understand whether you should be boxing or not.

Remember, it is not for everyone, but you never know until you actually go and try it. With that being said, let’s dive into the questions.

Is boxing good for fitness?

This is the main question we get asked the most when we start discussing boxing and how it relates to fitness.

People want to know if it actually is worth it.

They may have certain images in their head about what boxing is, and they may think, “It is just two people punching. How can it be good for my fitness?”

We are here to tell you that not only is boxing good for fitness, it is also one of the best things you can do to increase your fitness and here is why.

Boxing utilizes every single muscle group that you can think of in the body.

It is a sport of not only strength, but of intense cardio that puts the body through states of fitness that other sports simply do not.

Let’s first take the angle when it comes to fitness in which you are going to want to gain muscle.

Great for muscle gain

If you are looking to gain muscle, especially in places where there is fat is right now, you are going to want to look into boxing.

Boxing puts your strength to the test and uses a variety of methods, especially during certain drills that are going to work your muscles and develop them.

Take for instance the arms.

The arms are going to have a rigorous workout every single time that you are in the ring.

Even during training, when punching a bag, that is engaging the shoulders which is engaging the back, which leads through to the biceps and triceps to release a powerful punch.

If you ask any boxer, they go to the gym almost every day to build up these muscle groups so that they can win.

More than just arms and muscle gain workouts

Now boxing is actually more than just arms. Think about how much your core and your legs are going to be used when it comes to boxing.

Your legs are always going to moving, always trying to slip past your opponent.

Also, your legs have to be strong for you to hold your ground, because the moment you go down the match may be over.

It is also crucial that the core is also engaged and that you are holding it tight during the duration of the fight.

You cannot forget that in boxing, you are actually getting hit as well.

In order to avoid injury, you also have to take the time to hold your core, so if you are hit in the stomach, there is protection in place.

As you can see, there are a lot of various aspects that are being used when boxing.

It is an intense fitness situation and you have to be physically fit in order to box effectively.

Even if you are not looking to go pro, and you just want to do it to lose weight, that is completely great too, and by just doing the training in preparation for boxing, you will see how much fitness it takes.

Boxing is no walk in the park, and it is going to be challenging but it is going to be incredibly worth it when you look in the mirror and see the body that you have always wanted staring back at you.

Is boxing good for cardio?

Another question that we get asked the most when we are talking about boxing for fitness, is if it is actually a cardio workout as well.

People are always trying to increase the amount of cardio they do in a day, mostly because they want to help their heart rate increase, and it is the fastest way to lose those pounds and burn those calories.

There is a misconception when it comes to boxing that it is just two people standing there punching without any cardio involved.

That is completely untrue and boxing is actually a great sport for cardio.

With boxing, one of the first things you will learn is that you are always moving.

You should never stand still and you should always be light on your feet preparing for what is going to come next.

This takes a lot of cardio; imagine hopping back and forth back and forth, while moving your arms, for long periods of time.

That is what you are doing in boxing, and boxing can be very trying for people who are not excelled when it comes to cardio.

For examples of this, you should look at the daily workout routine that may professional boxers do.

For the most part, many of them are doing a lot of cardio before they even make their way to a punching bag, mainly because they know how important it is to keep their stamina up during a match.

You are going to want to last a long time, and not tire out too quickly. This is why many of them jog for miles before a workout.

This gets the blood flowing, the heart rate pumping and prepares their body for rigorous periods of time where they are consistently burning calories.

Jumping the ropes

Another staple for fitness when it comes to boxing is using a jump rope.

This is incredibly iconic when you think about the Rocky Balboa films, and you see him with the jump rope preparing for a big fight.

Jumping rope is a great way to engage the legs, get the blood flowing around the body, and is amazing for cardio.

If you do a routine where you jog on the spot, do jumping jacks, and then jump rope, and then do them all again, it is going to really help with your cardio.

So, the next time someone asks you if boxing is any good for cardio, you are going to have to answer a big yes.

It is a great sport for cardio, because of the consistent movement and the amount your heart is racing during a match.

How can I get started?

If you now want to start boxing for fitness, you are first going to have to see if it is actually the right thing for you.

We all have our own personal paths when it comes to fitness, so we never want you to feel like you are forced to do this!

One of the best things about fitness classes, especially for those that are offering boxing, is that you can usually go and attend one for free or you can go and audit a class.

By having the ability to test it out, you can begin to see if this is the right path for you.

You can also see if the coach or the trainer who is doing the boxing fitness class is going to work with your goals and if you click with them.

Finding a good boxing trainer

We wanted to take this section to talk specifically about that: a relationship with a trainer.

If you are just starting boxing for fitness, you do need someone to talk you through it and give you exercises that they can oversee.

You need someone with experience who has trained in this field before and really knows and understands their stuff.

You need someone who can show you the form, and the proper technique when it comes to boxing.

In order to actually excel, the coach that you find has to click with your personality, but still not be too easy on you.

They have to be able to push you and to explain your weaknesses in a delicate way where you understand how you are going to get better!

The first thing to do is to find a place where you feel comfortable so you can go and you can build and you can grow surrounded by people.

We sometimes encourage people to go with a friend to go to one of these classes, so you can get started right away with being the best that you can be.

It is great to have someone with you to hold you accountable, and it can also be a lot more fun.

Sticking to it

If you want to start boxing for fitness, what are you waiting for? All it takes is a quick Google search in your region to find a place and a gym that is going to work the best for you.

Our biggest piece of advice for beginners is to persevere through it all. You can do it if you just choose to open your mind and push yourself to get stronger.

It is not an easy journey, and you may want to give up, but if you actually stick to it, and commit, you will see a difference.
