Founded in 2006 by Franck Dupuis, Venum is a manufacturer of apparel and equipment for various martial arts, combat sports, and fitness. The brand specialized in products catering cross training, mixed martial arts, boxing, muay thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu or karate.

The brand has a solid background in MMA. Over the years they have sponsored some of the MMA legends such as Lyoto Machida, Carlos Condit, Jose Aldo, Miesha Tate, Wanderlei Silva, Fabricio Werdum, etc.
In this review, we will mainly focus on the Venum Challenger 2.0 boxing gloves.

On the exterior, you will see a vast Venum brand name printed on top. The brand name and a venom/snake logo are also printed on the Velcro strap which also indicates that the gears are designed and handmade in Thailand.
Also printed on the cuff is the size of the equipment which ranges from 10, 12, 14, and 16 oz.
The design itself is minimalist. Apart from the brand name and logo on top and on the Velcro strap, the gears have clean, simple linings / tribal style pattern on the side, making it not too dull but also not too flashy.
The Challenger 2.0 is made with a large Velcro wrist strap which keeps your hands locked. It also makes loading and removing the gears easier without needing much assistance.
These gears come in the following colors: black, black and white, blue, gold, white and red. Judging on the design itself, the Challenger will appeal to pro and non-pro boxers alike.
The gloves are made of 100% polyurethane (PU), hybrid leather. Their high-quality PU leather surface gives the gears a smooth, clean, and comfortable feel.
However, because they are not made of genuine leather, durability may be a bit of an issue here. Naturally, you cannot expect gears made of PU / synthetic leather to last as long as those made of genuine leather.
The stitching in these gears is close-knit. However, if you try to compare it with a slightly more expensive pair of boxing/muay thai gears, you will notice the imperfections in stitching.
Comfort / Support
Regarding comfort, these gears give a snug fit which allows for a right amount of versatility. Because of this, these gears will enable you to clench and make a fist with your hand, as well as to open them.
As they are widely used for Muay Thai, it is essential they allow you to mаkе rосk-hаrd fіsts аnd аlsо tо grаррlе аnd реrfоrm sоmе sоlіd сlіnсhеs.
The thumb compartment is attached to the main body of the glove, offering better protection as it allows you to throw your punch in one piece. This also reduces the chance of injury from possibly overstretching your thumb in taking of throwing off punches.
Now if we talk about fitting, the gears are good for boxers who have small or average hand sizes. However, for those who have larger hands, these gears may not be as comfortable as you want them to be.

These gears are designed with more extended cuffs that enclose your wrists with a full wrist wrap hook. Some users may find this uncomfortable, but this enclosure is made as such so that you can fit the gears snugly.
This same feature also makes sure that your wrists are offered strong support.
Furthermore, these gears offer an elastic band fitter around the wrist section. This feature mainly works to provide the user with a certain level of wrist support and protection as well. However, compared to other gears, the wrist support may not be that sturdy.
The Venum Challenger 2.0 are designed with triple layered shock absorbing foam. Gears which have this feature are so made so they can withstand heavy punches.
Because of this, they are also great for working on the heavy bag or boxing pads.
Since starting boxers / new beginners are heavy on training, throwing hundreds of punches, it is imperative that they are equipped with sturdy gloves like the Challenger 2.0. Gears like the Challenger 2.0 are designed to withstand the substantial impact of punches.
Users of these gears are pleased with how dense the padding is. The speeds are perfect for slamming hard on bags without feeling so much impact on your hands. Thus it may not be the ideal sparring gears, but better on bag training.

Ventilated mesh palm
The Challenger 2.0 gears are specially designed with a breathable / ventilated mesh palm. This feature allows the air to flow through for maximum comfort. They also keep your hands cool and comfortable during your boxing workout.
Breathable thumb compartment holes
You will notice in the Venum Challenge 2.0 gears that they have holes in the thumb compartment area. This is to allow air flowing through the area, which will obviously help keep the thumb compartment dry and comfortable.
This is a plus feature given boxers’ hands get sweaty quickly. Boxing gears which do not have proper ventilation tend to smell bad easily as sweat and moisture are trapped inside.
It is also harder to clean and dry up a glove that is not adequately ventilated, which should be the top priority after each boxing session.
